Fresh Flower Day

Fresh Flower Day

Last fall I finally decided to begin living the life that I dream.  I didn’t yet have a focused dream but knew it was time for a change.   I decided to sell my 110 year old historic home the I had completely renovated over the past 15 years.  My children were in various stages of their own lives: 2 states away, 15 miles down the road and one at home but going to college.   It was time to start anew.  Pack the old memories away in a safe place and start a fresh canvas to paint as I go.  I signed a contract to have a new house built.  I was able to choose my lot, my floorplan, my colors, my fixtures, my flooring and other choices.  Old memories safely tucked away and new memories ready to grow. A new home, new start, completely fresh, just my own.

One of the things I enjoyed about living in Germany many years ago was the abundance and affordability of fresh flowers.  I went to the market every week for a fresh bunch or two to decorate with in my house. They had so many to choose from and all were beautiful.  Back then, I paid 5 deutsche marks for a bunch.  I know that ages me since the deutsche mark hasn’t been around in years.  Lol.  There is something clean and fresh and happy about fresh cut flowers.  So when I closed on my new house, the first thing I did was head to my local grocery store, now only 4 min from my house and bought three small bunches.  I had to pay $12.00 for these three bunches and you can see in the picture how much that actually was.  In Germany, one bunch would have filled my vase completely.  Sadly, it took all three bunches to fill it this time.  But  they still make me happy everyday .  So each week or so, I head to the grocery store and pick up my three  new bunches.  I try to keep the white and red in my room since those are my colors and I choose yellows, oranges, and whites for the kitchen.  Something that reminds me of the sun.

After my ‘welcome to your new home floral arrangement’, I realized I had not received many flowers outside of Mother’s Day in many years and it occurred to me that we have a tendency to wait and hope others will do something nice for us when I was perfectly capable of providing that little bit of happy for myself everyday so I committed to having fresh flowers in my house all the time.  I can smile each time I see them and be reminded of what a great family, friends, home, career and opportunities I have.

As my dream continues to develop and the journey takes hold, the road will be lined with flowers because that is what i enjoy in the life she dreamed.
